Sri Lankan Fish Ambul Thiyal (Sour Fish Curry)

 A unique sour and tangy fish curry made with Goraka (a dried fruit used in Sri Lankan cuisine).

Ingredients:

  • 500g firm fish (like tuna), cut into chunks
  • 1 tbsp goraka paste (or tamarind paste)
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the fish with goraka paste, salt, and spices. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add ginger, garlic, and curry leaves.
  3. Add the marinated fish and water. Cover and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Uncover and simmer until the sauce thickens.
  5. Serve with rice.
